This first set of photographs show the completion of the initial, and arguably most time-consuming step of my project—creating a unique and visually appealing cut-and-fold paper design. After several days of experimentation, I was quite pleased with this paper cascade. I then proceeded to brainstorm how I could manipulate or utilize other materials and textures to create a full sculpture.
Next, I came across one of the most interesting textural results. The cool part was that I was able to achieve this desired effect by using just plain materials and no further editing or manipulation on Photoshop. When I combined a ball of colorful Christmas lights with a sheet of crumpled tinfoil, it produced a brilliant colored pattern, which I photographed from various angles in order to use for the next step.
I then finally combined the photographs of my paper sculpture with the tin foil texture, and isolated different planes of the sculpture to expose unique patterns.

The final component of my project was a play on shadows. As can be seen in the above video, I rotated a focused light at various heights and angles to observe how light and shadows change based off the shape of the paper sculpture. What I loved about this final project is that I was able to develop and experiment with the paper sculpture in multiple directions.
